A friend sent me this wonderful, short biodoc on Scott Schuman, the man behind the fashion blog ‘The Satorialist.’
I’m not entirely sure who filmed and edited this doc, but I feel that it was done beautifully and, aside from the content, kept me engaged the entire time. I really enjoyed the limited use of talking heads and cinematic approach to this short. It definitely gave me insight about the way that I would like to shoot my thesis documentary.
This is my last piece shot in 2010 and the first to share in 2011. It features my good friend, Amy, who never tires of letting me put my camera in her face.
Just because something bad happens doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. You gotta roll with the punches. And in the end, all you really need is you…
Coco & Robin are the Danish duo, Quadron.
Produced by: About Her Films.
Director, DP, Editor: Melinda James.
Featuring: Mara Hruby.
One of my favorite groups right now is Denmark’s Quadron. I fell in love with them when I came across their Yours Truly video and have been rocking them ever since. I had the pleasure of shooting Coco at SOM earlier this year and that was an amazing experience. A few months back, I was approached by Robin, after seeing my ‘Saturday Morning’ video, to do a video for ‘Simili Life.’ Talk about a dream come true!
Shot over a weekend in San Francisco with the talented, Mara Hruby, this is my first official music video to date. I hope you all enjoy this video, as it is a milestone in my budding career as a filmmaker.
I love Tokimonsta and I especially love this song of hers. After suggested by the lovely, Leilani Montes (who is also the leading lady in the video), I decided to make an unofficial video with some footage that I had sitting on reserve.
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal with Jesse Boykins III and The Park. Jesse pushed through his sickness and we all had a bunch of fun. This is Part 1 of a two part series, so be sure to keep an eye out for the second in a couple of days!
Also, I was able to stop by his show at SOM last weekend with Electric Wire Hustle, so be sure to keep an eye out for that sometime early next week!
I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted something, but as some as you know I just started my first year of graduate school at UC Santa Cruz end of September. Let me say… this stuff is no joke. I’m definitely learning a lot and am meeting some great, creative minds, but sadly, as I had suspected, my personal stuff is going to be a bit on the decline due to my demanding schedule.
I’ve been trying to grind and make trips back and forth to San Francisco to catch acts, so stayed tuned for those. Expect something from the likes of Jesse Boykins III & The Park, Electric Wire Hustle, and randomness around the city very soon. Maybe even as soon as tomorrow!
Thanks for all of the continued support! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on my upcoming pieces.
Rip Curl, a surf wear company, recently teamed up with Timeslice Films and produced an amazing video of surfers in “bullet-time“, the effect that most first saw in The Matrix. They used an enormous camera array of 52 Canon Rebel DSLRs (it was originally thought they were 5D Mark IIs) in order to capture the same shot from 52 different angles, stringing them together for the final footage.
